1999-02-15  ESPY AWARDS

by Angel Kaufman

Samuel L. Jackson - "our next presenter is an incredibly versatile actor. How versatile? In the movie 'Swingers' he called himself 'daddy', in the movie 'Psycho', he called himself 'mommy'. He's Vince Vaughn."

Vince - "you're money, baby. In any other year any of these men would've been a mortal lock for male athlete of the year, but when you look back at the exploits of 1998 you don't look back on mere mortals. The film I did a few years ago 'Swingers' we used a pretty common expression, uh, you're money, that play was money, this guy is money. Well, the nominees for make athlete of the year... Michael Jordan, Mark Maguire, Sammy Sosa, Jeff Gordon and Tyrell Davis, all these guys are money. And the, uh, ESPY goes to Mr. Mark Maguire."

Mark - "thank you for making this a magical year for me its even better than I thought, thank you."

Vince - "been playing since I was a kid if I had any other talent I, uh, I probably would have tried to, uh, be involved in it."

July 17, 2005 - CHICAGO CUBS with Vince singing

Transcribed for Alberta by Nezee :)

"Alright everybody. Good to back with ya back home here in Chicago. Let me hear you. A one, a two, a three..... sings "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." ....Alright everybody, good to see you. Thank you."

* After the 7th inning stretch, where Vince sings, he sits in on the rest of the inning with WGN commentators Len Kasper and Bob Brenly.

Len: Bottom of the 7th, Cubs 7 to 1, a lefty, John Grabow is on for the Pirates facing Aramis Ramirez. Bernie Sanches playing short. Deep to left!

Vince: Get, get, go, go. Touch 'em all.

Len: Outta here! Well, Bob said Aramis was great at batting practice and that's his third hit today. Vince Vaughn loves that.

Vince: I love it, man. Goodbye Mr. Spalding. (laughter)

Len: Third homerun for the Cubs.

Vince: That one's out on Waveland right?

Len: You got it. He smoked it.

Vince: 425. Got all of that one.

Len: Well, let's see...Wedding Crashers.

Vince: Nothing like a nailbiter. I always like a close nailbiter.

Len: Yeah, yeah your big new movie hit the theaters. You're out here, Cubs are winning 8 to 1. You got to sing  Take Me Out to the Ballgame, throw out the first pitch. Not a bad place to do it.

Vince: No, not bad man, very lucky. Except for the singing part. I apologize for making everyone suffer through that part of it, but it's fun to be out here with everybody.

Len: No, you did a great job.

Bob: No, no I don't think they suffered too much, they joined right in.

Vince: Oh no, stop that. You know i'm fishing guys.

Bob: Ahhh hah.

Len: So you have to be very excited about Wedding Crashers, which is out. And I've seen the reviews, can't wait to see the movie. And it looks like it's just gonna be awesome.

Vince: Yeah, it's great, you know, and the first reviews were terrific and it's very rare for an R comedy to get those kinds of reviews. ... Here's another one, over his head. There it is.

Len: So Hollandworth is on, he's reached all four times today. I wanted to ask you about the R rating. I know it's tough sometimes because it does limit the audience as far as how many people can come and watch it. I guess it's a bit raunchy but i'm told it's kind of a guy movie, right?

Vince: Well, I grew up with Animal House and Blues Brothers and I love those kinds of films and it's like nowadays they try so hard to make you kind of water everything down. It was alot of fun to take adult themes and have fun with it you know, and uh the movies R and it deserves it's R but it's not really shocking for shocking's sake. It just kind of goes with language and certain scenarios that warrant the R rating.

Len: As they would say, you're not being blue just to be blue.

Vince: No we're not working blue just to work blue. No, but like Old School I thought was really funny and that had alot of fun stuff and it wasn't just shocking and it had some funny... This has a great story. This movie here, I mean the reviews are unbelievable, to get these kind of reviews for an R movie. Look at this here, in the corner.

Len: And a fair ball for Neifi.

Vince: Will they turn him home, what do you think?

Len: I think they're gonna hold him up.

Vince: Hold him up. If you could take about four of these runs and put them on yesterdays score, that would be perfect.

Len: Yeah. So three hits to greet John Grabow here in the 7th inning. We're visiting with Vince Vaughn, who grew up in Lake Forest. Now you were class president, right? Tell us about that.

Vince: Yeah, I was the only person who almost had to run for two terms. I almost did not graduate, so part of the reason I ran for class president was so I would graduate. (laughter) I figured the class president speaks at the end of the year. They can't hold him back, so why not give it a shot Vince. (laughter) Right after high school I went out to California, didn't go to college and uh, just started auditioning for stuff until me and Favreau made Swingers.

Len: What a great movie that was.

Vince: Vegas, baby. (How convenient that is shows a Vegas advertisement on the screen when they are talking about this!)

Len: Some great lines in that movie and I think the dialogue is obviously what made it so great.

Vince: Yeah. Favreau did a good job of kind of capturing sort of that time of our lives as it's exaggerated for comedy but I think it's a movie alot of guys can relate to when they're in the early 20's and out of college or whatever for the first time and forced to kind of go out and walk up to girls you don't know.

Len: How much of that character is in your personality?

Vince: Umm, I think there's part of it in me for sure. Yeah. But it's exaggerated for comedy.

Len: And you know, i'm sure there are alot of guys out there that have made that phone call at 2 in the morning.

Vince: Oh yeah, that's my favorite part of the movie.

Len: Isn't it?

Vince: Where you want to hide your eyes half the time (laughter) and you're also laughing at how embarrased you are for him. So I think that's always my favorite scene, when Favreau keeps calling and calling and it's like let it go man. He's uh, plays my best friend. I'm doing a movie here now called The Break Up with Jennifer Aniston and we actually filmed here in uh, in Wrigley not that far, not that long ago and uh..

Len: Yeah, we got a shot of you guys out there.

Vince: Yeah, Favreau came in and plays my best friend in this one. He is funny, man. He lived in Chicago for about four years.

Len: What a day for Zambrano.

Vince: That was a great effort he made putting the ball between his legs.

Bob: Well, you can be sure he'll make another great effort here. He loves to hit as much as he loves to pitch. He's probably going to try to take one deep.

Vince: Yeah, he had a great one earlier.

Len: So tell us about The Break Up. Where are you in production right now, and when is it scheduled to come out?

Vince: We're about halfway through, it's about halftime. And we're gonna plan on coming out early February around Valentine's Day. And it's going really well, gotta bunch of great actors here and there's no where to be like Chicago. Especially in the summertime, it's the best place in the world. You know, you've got such friendly people here. Uh, i've put on about 10 pounds since i've been here cause the food's so good and everyone's had a great time coming out here this summer.

Len: Two strikes on Zambrano, second and third with one out, it's 8 to 1, Cubs. Aramis Ramirez with a leadoff homer here in this inning. And he chased one and two outs. (Vince laughs) We're visiting again with Vince Vaughn. So, what about working with Owen Wilson?

Vince: I love Owen. He's great. Not only is he really funny and smart but he's a really genuine guy. And uh, we had a good time on this movie, they really left us alone. We'd show up everyday at work and keep coming up with funnier stuff and different stuff to day and they were real encouraging and we plan on doing it again sometime.

Len: Hairston the batter with two outs. We had Will Ferrell here early in the year.

Vince: The Big Cat, as we like to call him.

Len: The Big Cat.

Vince: He's very funny, yeah. He pops up in Wedding Crashers, Will does. Funny guy.

Len: Low and inside on Hairston. So when a movie comes out, I mean... What is your role right now, with Wedding Crashers obviously you're doing alot of interviews. What's uh, you just kind of sit back and watch? How much of the reviews do you look at?

Vince: Well you know, I try not to, it's sort of out of your hands at that point. And uh, you know the only time you have control is playing your part and making the movie, but of course when the movie does as well as this one's doing this week, it feel great. But you know, you just kinda take it all in stride whatever happens. Cause there's not much you can do..

Len: Yeah once it's made and you're proud of it, you just put it out there and say "go watch."

Vince: That's it and you hope for the best. Yeah. You hope for the best. And i've been lucky. Especially recently, Dodgeball's done real well and Old School, so i'm glad to see that this one's doing really well. And Christopher Walken's really funny in the movie. He's such kind of an intense, dramatic actor so when it does it for comedy, it's funny.

Len: If you had to pick one movie....

Vince: It's alot hotter on that field than it is not on the field. Why is that?

Len: The sun, I think.

Vince: The sun. Well no, in the stands it's not as hot as it is on the field. And I understand the sun plays a factor, that's uh, uh, that part I grasp. (laughter) But I think that they just water, cut the grass so much.

Len: That's a good question.

Vince: It's a great question. In fact, i'm gonna ask it again. Why is it so hot?!  (laughs)

Bob: That's the energy down there that just comes off the game itself.

Vince: That's it. Now I like what you're talking brother. I like that language my man. Look at this kid. He's like five, he's gotta cell phone, what is that - a camera?

Len: Gotta camera, a cell phone, the whole deal. Lofted to left, Bay is under it. Vince Vaughn, best of luck with Wedding Crashers.

Vince: Oh, it's great to be here. Nice talking to you guys.

Len: Great to see you here at Wrigley.

Vince: You, as well. I enjoy listening to you guys. Keep it up.

Len: Thank you. Look good in that Ryno jersey. (He says this because Vince is wearing a Ryne Sandberg jersey. Ryne is a former Cub player and is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.)

Vince: Right on man. Thanks.

2002-11-28  ELVIS LIVES

by Pippa

He's Elvis, man.  You know...  He's just flat out the greatest entertainer ever to live. I have MTV, and the internet, and all these things, and it's so much easier to buy records and find records. A lot of his record sales that he accomplished were done before it was as convenient as it is today to get your hands on material. A lot of people got phonographs in order to get Elvis records.  Elvis changed the way people viewed entertainers.  I mean, the one thing I think that made him great is there's a superhero quality that draws you in, and there's a pagentry to it that you just think is so cool.  You go, "Man, I want to be like Elvis."  I wanna go save the girl, and sing a song, and be in the band.  There was no one that came before Elvis, for him to learn from to navigate those waters. As an entertainer it's hard enough, and there was no none that ever was, you know, as popular, as well known as Elvis was, so it had to be even more daunting a task.

Celebrities Uncensored, Vince Vaughn

All dialogue said by narrator (VOICE OVER) unless stated otherwise.

Voice over – footage with locals brawling, etc., with Vince.

[Continued from previous comment] … But for the patient paparazzi, the real “money shot’s” take place in the wee hours of the morning.

Spectator: It was closing time at the Las Palmas, and the crowd was getting pretty rowdy. There was a guy in there who was on parole from Massachusetts and bumped into Vince Vaughn. They were basically yelling at each other and trading insults.

The guy backs away, but Vaughn is just getting started. A friend tries to play “peace maker,” but Vaughn doesn’t back down.

Footage: Yelling/Arguing from Vince and the locals

Security makes a half-hearted attempt to intervene, but Vince isn’t having it.

Spectator: Probably, Vince couldn’t take it anymore, and spit right in the guy’s face.

Footage: Vince spitting. More yelling from everyone.

Finally, Vince heads back inside the club to presumably cool his jets and enjoy the rest of his night, proving once again that this “swinger” is “so money, baby.”
